Casting

Smile will be casting in the UK for the 2011-2012 school year on 22, 23 and 24 October 2011 at The Rag Factory in London, McCoy Studio (Saturday & Sunday) and Sewing Room (Monday).

For our first 8 years of casting, we went to Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London. In 2008 we moved to Urdang Academy, London and in 2009 we will host the casting at Jerwood Space, with ourcasting director Mark Rind. Follow the News to check for updates. For 2010-2011 Auditions, we held them the Casting at Craven Rehearsal Rooms, London.

We will, as every year, cast along 3 days (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) and we will see over 250 auditions for 2012 season.

Those days will be hard-working days and we will be listening and speaking with Actors and let introduce themselves. We will ask them to perform a short demonstrative speech/sketch good for kids and show us their own drama skills and their good attitude to work with children.

Please feel free to write us for any info and questions, using the emails provided here, or take a look at the page with all the Info for Applicants or the Application Form.

Our Casting Director for the 2012 season is (Smile Theatre – Smile & Drama – SmileSmile):

  • Rachel Dean trained as an actor at The Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London and started working for Smile soon after as an actor with Smile Theatre in 2006 touring Jingle Jungle and Gomez & Co. As a result of her experience with Smile, she decided to train as an English teacher and gained her TEFL qualification later that year. She now has over 5 years experience under her belt teaching English (and 10 years teaching drama) and now works with Smile as a training co-ordinator for Smile Days. Rachel also runs her own theatre company in London where she writes and directs her own plays.

Our Director for the 2012 season is (Smile Days):

    • Guy Trussell has been working with foreign language students for over half of his life, and he is still only 31 years old. He has a vast experience of working in language schools both in Italy and the UK as a coordinator of activities, teacher and program director. He is TEFL qualified, and in 2005 spent a year working for the Oxford School of Languages in Foligno, Umbria. It was SMILE that opened his eyes to working in Italy, as he loves, the people, language, culture and especially the food. Guy worked as a teacher and senior tutor for SMILE DAYS for four consecutive years from 2003. Three of those years were spent working in Cornedo di Vicentino – a place he likes to call his second home.
In contrast to Rachel, Guy is not from an acting background; however he has a great understanding of the teaching and activity leading skills needed to be a successful member of the SMILE DAYS team.
